Art is a great way to set a tone, therefore I have rendered some pictures in black and white. Due to black & white, images gain extra depth and mysteriousness. In the past I used to make the picture black and white and colour some aspects with the brush tool. Nowadays, the first questions I ask myself is ‘what aspect(s) of the picture I want that the viewer is drawn to?’ The characteristics of these aspects are objects with vivid colours as they will stand out in the black & white contrast. After answering this I create a mask for these object and create a layer on top of the original picture. Some pictures are harder to seperate like trees, in order to solve this problem I use the spot healing technique. Finally, the original picture is then set to black & white. This means that original colour remains of the object(s) that were separated. This method gives a more authentic result than using the brush tool.
