Metalsteel – Forsaken by the Gods Review

September 2021 – Dublin

I am going to write down a different review than the last one… For this one I am going to travel to Slovenia to review ”Forsaken by the Gods” by Metalsteel. It will also be my first time listening to this band and as a result I will share my first impression about the band and the album itself. As a designer myself I will of course give a few words regarding the artwork. In the end I will give a small summary.

THE BAND

Metalsteel could be categorized as a heavy metal band, however the band themselves states they are quite different from traditional heavy metal bands as in their own words: “Metalsteel combines raw aggression with melodic and progressive structures”. A golden combination if the albums live up to it.

THE ALBUM

There are a lot of Iron Maiden influences on the album, however it comes with a little bit of twist. ”Forsaken by the Gods” combines indeed the raw aggression with melodic and progressive structures! And this all strengthened by the way the songs are put together.

It starts in a non-traditional way; if I am not mistaken there are some folklore instruments mixed with a progressive sound in the first song, especially at the beginning. As a result, you are hooked into the album and want to find out how the rest of the album unfolds.

The songs which are coming next have great guitar riffs and melodies, but before, it gets too repetitive; you hear something different – a ballad! The song is called “Fallen Brother ” which fits nicely to the whole album and has its own unique sound. It is not only a great song to listen to but to sing along as well even if you hear it for the first time. The songs after are leaning towards traditional heavy metal closing slowly with a blast and the last song closes the album impressively as it is something you don’t expect.

In short, “Forsaken by the Gods” is an album that stays true to the eighties, but offers something fresh at the same time.

“FORSAKEN BY THE GODS IS FULL OF MUSICAL TWISTS”

ARTWORK

When you look at the artwork it is quite different than traditional heavy metal bands as well which is absolutely welcoming, because how many albums can we have with skulls? The album resembles slavic folklore which blends nicely with the whole concept behind the album. As a result, you get a better understanding how Metalsteel distinguish themselves from all other heavy metal bands alike.

SUMMARY

In short, “Forsaken by the Gods”’ is an excellent album which stands out from other heavy metal alike. As a result, it is a must buy for those who are into heavy metal as this one is something you haven’t heard yet. Also, this album is a must for those who are searching for something different and are curious how this band gives a modern twist to heavy metal.

“FORSAKEN BY THE GODS IS AN INTERESTING ONE AS YOU WILL HEAR HEAVY METAL AS NEVER BEFORE”
